FIRST FRIDAY: PRIDE OF NEWTOWN
JENNIFER WEST
FOCUS ON NEWTOWN

This month's Aha! Friday will acknowledge the accomplishments of Newtown. The last few months have been filled with accomplishments.

Which is why the Newtown Main Streets will take the opportunity to recognize the borough and its residents for their accomplishments at this month's First Friday event.
The Pride of Newtown is the July theme for the monthly first Friday event that has taken place since February.

Not only will Newtown take pride in their country in upcoming July 4th festivities, but they'll also celebrate recent state and national recognition Newtown has received over the last few months.

" Pride of Newtown is about celebrating the achievements and awards recently bestowed on Newtown," said Main Streets Manager Chris Ortwein.

The Mains Streets committee will use first Friday to acknowledge the borough's preservation award.

The borough won the 2005 Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs Preservation award in May.

Newtown borough council member Mark Craig went to the annual conference in June and accepted the award on behalf of Newtown Borough.

Newtown First Night will also be acknowledged for their event that they put on this year. Liz Battaglia will be recognized for her design of the First Night poster, which received second place honors and her button design which won first place, at the First Night annual conference earlier this year.

Although the recognition, which will be held at the Court Inn will take place at 6 p.m., the State Street businesses will still be open for the first Friday event.

The Zebra-Striped Whale and Bucks Gallery of Fine arts will be open with exhibits and the Brick Hotel will be giving away a chance to win a dinner for two.
